Champa: Rescue operations to save 11-year-old Rahul Sahu who fell into a borewell in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir Champa district were intensified on the third day.
A team of specialists from Gujarat, with remote-operated robots, reached Pihrid village in Malkharoda block on Sunday to help National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescue teams which are already at the spot trying to pull the speech and hearing impaired boy out of the borewell, ANI reported.
Among the rescuers is a team from third battalion of NDRF located at Mundali in Odisha’s Cuttack.
A large group of police personnel and officials from local administration are also monitoring the operation round the clock.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that Mahesh Ahir, a Gujarat resident, tweeted that his invention — a borewell rescue robot — can help save Rahul.
The state government immediately got in touch with Mahesh to seek his assistance in saving the child.
The CM, who spoke to robotics experts to get an idea of how the child could be rescued, is in constant touch with the District Collector for updates on the rescue mission.
The CM has also instructed that all abandoned borewells be immediately closed to ensure no similar mishap recurs.
Seeking villagers’ cooperation, Baghel urged them to inform authorities immediately if they spot an open borewell.
