Bhubaneswar: The renovation and beautification work of Kapileswar temple in Old Town of Bhubaneswar started on Thursday.
The renovation of the 11th century temple was started after Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi took up the matter with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The locals had drawn her attention to the dilapidated condition of the temple, citing that water was leaking from its roof while stones falling from different parts of the stricture had become a regular affair.
Stating that the shrine was in urgent need of renovation, Sarangi said its repair work would be taken up in the first phase of the project.
“Rs 46 lakh has been sanctioned in the first phase of the renovation work of Kapileswar temple. Rs one crore more would be provided after three months for the purpose,” she said.
In the second phase, the road from Samantarapur to Kapileswar temple would be broadened so that the visitors coming from Bhubaneswar would not face any problem to communicate, she added.
Besides Sarangi, MLA Babu Singh, ASI officials, servitors of the temple and local people were present on the occasion of beginning of the project.
