Renowned Author Sadia Dehlvi Passes Away At 63

New Delhi: Renowned Delhi-based author and activist Sadia Dehlvi passed away after a prolonged fight with cancer at the national capital on Wednesday. Sadia was 63.

Having developed complications, Sadia was admitted to a city hospital recently where she had undergone treatment. However she breathed her last at her residence on Wednesday.

“Sad to hear about the tragic demise of Sadia Dehlvi, a well known cultural figure of Delhi, a dear friend and a wonderful human being. Rest in Peace,” eminent historian S Irfan Habib tweeted.

Hailing from the royal ‘Shama’ family, Sadia edited Urdu women’s journal Bano. Shama, an iconic Urdu film and literary monthly, was founded by her grandfather Hafiz Yusuf Dehlvi in 1938.

Known as food connoisseur, Sadia wrote a book on capital’s culinary history in 2017, titled Jasmine & Jinns: Memories and Recipes of My Delhi.

Sadia is survived by her son Arman Ali Dehlvi.
