Repair Of Tunnel Underway To Stop Leakage Of Indravati Water

Bhawanipatna: The authorities of the Indravati Dam have started the repair of the tunnel no-4 following leakage of the reservoir water on Sunday.

The incident came to light after the dam authorities noticed the massive flow of water outside the tunnel no-4 in the morning.

Notably, the Indravati hydro-power channel receives water through four tunnels of the reservoir. The maximum generation capacity of the Indravati hydro-power unit is 600 MW.

Though the dam authorities had repaired the four tunnels to prevent leakage of reservoir water, the water continued to leak from the tunnel no-4.

Asked whether the leakage of water would hamper power generation, the dam authorities said that the water from the two tunnels would be sufficient to generate power.

They said the tunnel no-4 has been closed and the repair work is going in a war-footing.
