According to police, Ashok Nahak, a carpenter and cultivator from Old Khajuria village, was returning home on h
is motorcycle on the evening of July 13 when an unknown youth requested him for a lift. After boarding the motorcycle, the youth allegedly pulled out a knife and slit Ashok’s throat before fleeing with the motorcycle.
The grievously injured Ashok was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Bramhapur for treatment.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s wife, Sunita Nahak, Nimakhandi Police registered a case on July 14 and immediately launched an investigation. With the assistance of Srikakulam Police in Andhra Pradesh, the accused was identified as Dharma alias Papu Sahu (25) of Lanjipalli under BN Pur police limits and apprehended from Palasa on July 15.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime and led police to the knife concealed in the dicky of the stolen motorcycle. The accused was arrested and motorcycle and the weapon were seized as evidence, Bramhapur SP Saravana Bivek M said.
