Resident Docs Learn Enhanced Health Care Service Skills For Emergency Patients At Bhubaneswar AIIMS

Bhubaneswar: With an aim to enhance health care service for emergency patients visiting AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, a workshop on ‘Basic Surgical Skills and Suturing technique’ was organised by the department of Trauma and Emergency of the hospital.

Resident doctors, nursing staff and healthcare workers participated in the first-of-its-kind workshop organised in the auditorium of College of Nursing.

Participants were taught new things to provide better healthcare service to patients in critical conditions. Professor of General Surgery and Head of the Department of Trauma and Emergency, Dr. Tushar S. Mishra said the programme is designed to upgrade the skills of the primary health care workers and doctors involved in emergency patient care. It was a teaching-learning activity with stress on hands-on practice.

Doctors from outside AIIMS-Bhubaneswar will be allowed to participate in similar programmes in near future, informed programme coordinator Dr Ritesh Panda; Assistant Professor, Burns and Plastic surgery division of Department of Trauma and Emergency.

Among others, Dr. Saroj Kumar Patra of Orthopedics division of Department of Trauma and Emergency; Dr Prakash Sasmal, Dr Manwar Ali and Dr Pankaj Kumar from Department of General Surgery were course faculties in the programme.

Patients coming to the trauma and emergency department seek quick and effective treatment, said Director, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, Dr Gitanjali Batmanabane. Basic skill programme like this would significantly benefit the residents, both surgical and nonsurgical and will substantially improve patient care, she added.
