New Delhi: Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman conveyed her disappointment to Salil Parekh during her meeting with the Infosys CEO on Monday over the glitches being faced by taxpayers in using the income tax e-filing portal even two-and-a-half months after its launch.
She sought an explanation from Parekh about the issues that continue to plague the web portal and demanded that the Infosys team resolve all the issues by September 15.
“The ministry of finance emphasized that there is a need for putting in more resources and efforts on the part of Infosys so that the much delayed delivery of agreed services is ensured,” the the Income Tax department said in a statement.
“The Hon’ble finance minister demanded that the issues faced by taxpayers on current functionalities of the portal should be resolved by the team by September 15, 2021, so that taxpayers and professionals can work seamlessly on the portal,” the statement said.
Parekh informed Sitharaman over 750 team members were engaged in this project and that Infosys COO Pravin Rao was personally overseeing it. The CEO assured the ministry that no efforts are being spared to ensure smooth functioning of the portal.
