Hyderabad: Edwin Nunes, who was among five persons arrested after the death of BJP leader Sonali Phogat, has been nabbed again – this time by Telangana Police from Goa’s Anjuna in a drugs case.
Nunes is the owner of Curlies restaurant, where Sonali was seen partying hours before she died.
Nunes is wanted by police in Hyderabad, along with dozens of drug dealers, following a drugs bust in Telangana three months ago.
NDTV reported that police from Telangana’s Lalaguda had been camping in Goa after Additional Sessions Court in Mapusa ordered Nunes to surrender before the police for forging a COVID-19 certificate earlier this week.
As soon as he got bail on Friday, Telangana police pounced on him and took him into custody with the assistance of local police. Nunes was taken to Hyderabad.
“He walked out of police custody after complying with the bail conditions imposed by the court. Police from Hyderabad were already at the police station, waiting for him. They took him into custody over cases registered against him in Telangana,” a senior officer in Panaji said.
The Sonali death case was handed over to the CBI by Goa Police in September.
