Restoration Work In Full Swing In Cyclone-Hit South Odisha Districts: SRC

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Saturday said that the restoration works are going on in full swing in the cyclone-hit districts of South Odisha.

Briefing mediapersons after the meeting presided over by the chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi at the State Secretariat here, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi said all damaged roads in the affected areas in Gajapati, Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada districts have been repaired and drinking water supply to these areas has been restored.

Stating that the people of Gajapati district mostly depend on cashew cultivation, he said the state government has decided to provide compensation of Rs 18,000 per acre to each affected cashew farmer. “It has been decided that the state government will credit the aforesaid compensation amount to the bank account of these affected farmers through the direct benefit transfer (DBT) after the district administration submits the final report on crop damage.

The SRC further said that the state government has provided Rs 14 crore and Rs 25 crore to the affected people Gajapati and Ganjam districts respectively as gratuity relief.

He also informed that a central team will visit the affected districts the next week.
