Puri: The restrictions on general darshan of sibling deities at Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri was extended by 3 more hours on Friday.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) said that the shrine will remain closed for preparation for Snana Purnima the following day. It had earlier decided to restrict darshan from midnight till 11 am on June 21 for Senatapalagi Niti, but the ritual could not be completed within the stipulated time, the sources added.
As Lord Jagannatha and Lord Balabhadra are quite heavy, a wooden cross is fixed to their backs and thick silken ropes are tied round their heads and waists during this ritual. Daitapati servitor also apply a paste made of Baula Katha on the deities to prevent any damage to the idols during Pahandi Bije (ceremonial procession) to the Snana mandap for the ritualistic bath.
