Puri: The district administration has withdrawn the restrictions preventing the people belonging to districts other than Puri from performing cremation at Swargadwar, here.
Speaking to media persons on the step, Puri collector Samarth Verma said the administration took the decision following drop in daily COVID cases.
He said people from other districts can perform the cremation at Swargadwar and immersion of ashes at Mahodadhi in strict adherence to COVID protocols. But not more than 10 people will be allowed to accompany a body to the cremation ground at a time. Besides, they have to furnish their RT-PCR negative report, the collector said.
They will also have to submit the documents of the deceased and certificate that he was not a COVID patient. It has been made mandatory for them to strictly follow the COVID norms like use of face mask, sanitisation of hands and maintaining social distance of two meters.
The district administration had put a curb on cremation of bodies from other districts at Swaragadwar on January 7 following a surge in COVID cases.
