Retd Odisha Professor, Sons Arrested Under Arms Act

Burla: A retired professor of Sambalpur University and his two sons have been arrested under the Arms Act.

Keshav Chandra Panda was a professor in the Physics department of the varsity and had retired about 10 years back. His sons have been identified as Durgesh and Dinesh.

According to sources, they were arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Rahul Sharma of Burla, whom they had allegedly threatened with a double-barrel when the former objected to a boundary wall erected on his plot along NH-65 near Hirakud railway station. The incident had taken place on July 12. Though Rahul had left the place in fear of being shot at, he managed to record the entire incident on his mobile and later lodged a complaint with Burla police in this regard.

On the basis of a counter-complaint lodged by Keshav, police have arrested Basanta Naik and Magadhu Singh. He alleged that a group of people led by Rahul and one Amit Guru had demolished the boundary wall on the same plot and assaulted his son Dinesh.

Burla SDPO S Dash told the media that the investigation is on and some more persons are being interrogated in connection with the case.
