Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Berhampur on Tuesday sentenced a retired assistant engineer to rigorous imprisonment in a disproportionate assets (DA) case.
Odisha Vigilance had filed the chargesheet against Narayan Panda, retired assistant engineer, Estimator, RWS&S Division-cum-additional charge of Executive Engineer, RWSS Division, Gajapati district for possession of disproportionate assets.
After hearing the case, Special Judge, Vigilance, Berhampur convicted Panda and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for 3 years and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 for the offence under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988. In default of payment of fine, he has to undergo RI for 3 months more, the court ruled.
The Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Panda following his conviction.
