Puri: An elderly couple was found dead at their residence at Senapati Bagicha area under Talabania police limits in Odisha’s Puri late on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Anam Mishra, a retired officer from Hindustan Aeronautics L
imited (HAL), and his wife Sangita Mishra.
According to sources, the couple was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside their home. They are suspected to have taken the extreme step simultaneously. Family members and neighbours informed police upon noticing the bodies. A team from Talabania police station immediately reached the spot and sent the bodies to district headquarters hospital in Puri for postmortem.
Residents in the neighbourhood expressed shock and sorrow, noting that the couple had reportedly been grappling with mental stress for some time. They attributed it to their son’s alleged drug addiction.
Though police have not yet confirmed any specific motive, the couple’s son has been detailed for questioning. While the postmortem will shed light on the exact cause of the death, investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
