Cuttack: Former judge of Orissa High Court, Justice Pradyumna Kumar Mohanty breathed his last at his residence in Odisha’s Cuttack city on Tuesday at the age of 79.
Justice Mohanty was born on January 2, 1945. After completing his schooling, he obtained a degree in law and enrolled as an advocate on December 9, 1968. He dealt in civil, criminal, constitutional, service, educational, revenue and allied matters in the original, appellate and revisional side in the Orissa High Court and subordinate courts in Cuttack.
He elevated as a judge of the high court on January 17, 1996, and held the office till January 1, 2007.
Justice Mohanty headed the judicial commission of inquiry on the police firing incident at Kalinga Nagar in Jajpur district in which 14 tribal people were killed in a clash while protesting against construction of a boundary wall for a proposed mega steel plant in 2006. He was also appointed head of judicial commission of inquiry into the sensational Pipili gang rape and murder case of 2011.
