Balangir: A retrenched Amin, who was recently sacked from her job, allegedly attempted suicide late on Tuesday.
The Amin identified as Nirmalya Swain, daughter of Satrughna Swain of Rameswar Nagar, reportedly took the extreme step frustrated over Orissa High Court upholding the state government’s decision to scrap the 2013 appointment of 153 Revenue Inspectors (RIs) and Amins in the district.
According to reports, Nirmalaya had hanged herself inside a room in her house. However, her family members managed to rescue her after breaking open the door. She was admitted to the district headquarters hospital.
On March 3, 2016, the government had scrapped the appointments of RIs and Amins after mass irregularities were detected in the recruitment process.
Following the decision, the retrenched employees approached Odisha Administrative Tribunal (OAT) which ordered for their reinstatement.
Dissatisfied with the OAT’s order, the government had then moved the court.
