Bhubaneswar: A Revenue Inspector (RI) was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday while allegedly taking Rs 60,000 bribe from a man to process his application in mutation cases of six parental plots.
The accused, identified as Jiban Krishna Parida, is posted as RI at Bantalsing under Pipili Tehsil of Puri district.
Vigilance said in a statement that Parida had initially demanded a bribe of Rs 90,000 @ 15,000 for each mutation case and refused to process the applications without payment of bribe. After several requests made by the complainant, the RI reduced the bribe amount to Rs 60,000.
As the complainant was not able to pay the demanded bribe, he approached vigilance authorities. Acting his report, a team of Vigilance nabbed Parida while taking Rs 60,000 from the complainant. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the accused RI and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations linked to Parida from Disproportionate Assets angle. A case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
