Bhubaneswar: The process for revision of electoral rolls for the forthcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections next year, began in Odisha on Saturday.
It would continue till October 31 and the final voter list would be published on January 4, 2019.
Talking to mediapersons here on Saturday, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Surendra Kumar said those who complete 18 years of age by January 1, 2019, can register their name in the voter list by filling up a form which they can get from the booth level officer. Along with the form, they have to submit colour passport photographs and documents as proof of their place of residence and the date of birth. They can also apply online through the national voter service portal of the Election Commission of India, he added.
He said people having more than one voter I-Card can apply to the authorities concerned to cancel one of them, as it will attract a penalty or one-year jail term or both.
“If any person wants to delete his/her name from the voter list, he/she can apply to the booth level officer or the Electoral Registration Officer (the sub-collector) through form no-7. Besides, if any voter finds wrong information about his/her name or address, he/she can apply through form no-8. The draft voter list would be available in 37,606 booths,” Kumar said.
The CEO also informed that the political parties have been asked to appoint booth-level agents in the district and inform the district election officers and the collectors of their appointment.
For the ensuing elections in the state, each booth with 1200 voters has been set up in the rural areas and 1400 voters in the urban areas, he added.
