Balangir: In a show of utmost efficiency and honesty, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) in Odisha’s Balangir recovered an abandoned bag, containing jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh, and returned it to the owner couple.
The Railway Police is winning accolades from people for the same.
According to sources, Shyama and Angshu, who were travelling from Howrah to Rourkela by Samleswari Express for a wedding, left behind the bag while de-boarding the train at Rourkela. An RPF officer, who boarded the train in Jharsuguda, spotted the abandoned bag during a routine check in Balangir and alerted the police station following which the authorities gathered details about the passengers. The RPF managed to contact the couple and asked them to come and collect the bag from Balangir.
An RPF Officer told media that the bag contained diamonds and Malabar gold coins.
Elated beyond words, the couple said they were grateful to the RPF for finding the bag and alerting them even before they knew that they had left it behind. “I don’t have words to express my feelings. I thank them endlessly from the bottom of my heart,” Shyama said.
