Bhubaneswar: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is all set to launch a new online course ‘one health’ on January 23 and Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Bhubaneswar, will offer it under the national programme on technology-enhanced learning (NPTEL).
According to sources, it will be a three-month course and will be offered free of cost.
The course, developed by RMRC and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), is about zoonotic diseases, emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, measures to control, and ways to reach out to communities in alignment with public health policies.
“The course assumes significance post-COVID-19 pandemic that taught the medical fraternity the importance of public health and possible ways to tackle the health crisis. This concept supports global health security by enhancing the communication, collaboration, and coordination at the human-animal-environment interface to address shared health threats such as zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and food safety,” TNIE reported Coordinator of the course, Debdutta Bhattacharya, as saying.
This new online health course has been designed for students, early career researchers, clinicians, and policymakers in view of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases of public health importance.
What will the short course cover?
It will cover the history and evolution of one health concept, its application, relevance, and success.
Qualification to pursue the course?
Any graduate and postgraduate in health sciences, biomedical sciences, life sciences, environmental sciences, veterinary sciences, and public health can pursue the course.
