Baripada: Blocking a busy road in Baripada town by the police purportedly for the birthday celebration of Mayurbhanj SP Parmar Smit Parshottamdas has raised many eyebrows.
According to sources, the Town Police suddenly blocked the road connecting the bus stand with the district headquarters hospital at 8 pm on Saturday for about two hours by putting up barricades. While the exact reason for the blockade was not immediately known, the locals had no other way other than taking other routes in the town to reach their destinations.
Surprisingly, the police suddenly removed the barricades from the road after mediapersons arrived at the spot.
Asked about the blockade, a sub-inspector of the Town police station said he was sent by the IIC for duty at the spot. Even the IIC parried the question by saying that the blockade was due to an urgent meeting at the residence of the SP.
“When I asked the policemen as to why they had blocked the road, they did not give any reply. My house is only 200 metres from the blockade area. I had to wait for about two hours as the policemen did not let me take this route. I am a citizen and I have the right to information,” said an irate local.
