Bhubaneswar: Tension ran high on the busy Damana Square in Odisha capital on Monday following the death of two persons in a road mishap on Saturday night.
The victims, identified as Hrudananda Jena and Santosh Sahoo, died while undergoing treatment this morning.
Demanding adequate compensation for the bereaved families, irate locals blocked the road at Damana Square by placing a body on the road. This lead to massive traffic jam on the busy route.
On being informed, Chandrasekharpur police reached Damana Square and tried to pacify the agitators. But they continued the stir on Damana-DAV School road. They have threatened to continue the blockade till their demand is fulfilled.
On Saturday night, Hrudananda and Santosh were hit by a car while returning from the market in a scooter. The PCR van took them to a nearby hospital. They died while undergoing treatment on Monday.
The police have seized the car. The four occupants were sent medical examination since they were found to be in an inebriated state and then sent home, the sources added.
