Paradip: Police have started a murder probe into the death of a 25-year-old man, who was presumed to have been killed in a road accident in Jagatsinghpur district last year.
The body of Amruta Das of Kujang was found lying on Cuttack-Paradip State Highway at Balipatna near Tirtol on July 20, 2019.
Amruta’s family had earlier assumed that it was a road accident. But later, his mother, Sulochana Das, alleged that he was murdered over a past enmity and his body was dumped on the highway.
According to Sulochana, her son had received as many as 15 calls on his mobile phone between 7 am and 12 noon on the fateful day. Later, some men came to the house and took Amruta with them on the pretext of work at Jagatsinghpur.
Around 4 pm, Sulochana called her son, who replied in a choked voice that he will return home in half an hour. She later came to know that Amruta’s body was found at Balipatna.
She also claimed that Amruta was also attacked in the past but had escaped unhurt.
Sulochana later filed a writ petition in a Kujang court, urging the case to be investigated as murder.
Earlier this week, the court directed Tirtol police for investigating the death as murder. Accordingly, police registered a case on Thursday.
