Bhubaneswar: A doctor sustained injuries after being stabbed by a youth at Jagamara in Odisha capital on Monday.

The injured doctor has been admitted to a hospital while Khandagiri police have detained the assailant, identified as Bibek Patnaik alias Sonu of Jagamara area.

According to sources,  a verbal spat erupted between the doctor and the youth this evening. It took an ugly turn when the youth took out a knife and attacked the doctor. Sonu also tore the cover of the expensive bike which the doctor was riding and damaged the gas tank.

The doctor, Ashutosh Pradhan, is working at a COVID hospital in Koraput. He sustained injuries in his hands in the attack.

“I was on my way towards Khandagiri on my friend’s bike around 4.15 pm when I came across a hump and applied the brake, a white colour Ford hit me from behind. Soon a youth came out of the car and demanded money saying the car was damaged in the collision,” said Pradhan.

The doctor said that the youth, who was in an intoxicated condition, pulled out a knife from the car when the former protested and tried to attack him. “He tried to stab me in my stomach, but the knife hit my hand,” he added.

A case has been registered in this connection at Khandagiri police station.
