Bhubaneswar: Two family members of a BJD corporator were injured after being shot at following a road rage incident at Laxmisagar in Odisha capital late on Wednesday.
The victims have been identified as elder brother of ward-32 BJD Corporator Sridhar Jena, Sikhar Jena, and his nephew Alok Jena. They sustained bullet injuries on their legs. The duo was initially rushed to the Capital Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in the city for better treatment.
The incident took place just a few meters away from Laxmisagar police station when a group obstructed the elder nephew of the corporator by parking their vehicle in front of his when was on his way home, leading to a heated altercation and subsequent firing.
Speaking to the media, the corporator said that there were around 10-15 people. “We have a shop near the flyover. The accused persons intentionally parked their vehicle in front of his vehicle while he was returning home.”
Sridhar along with his elder brother and younger nephew rushed to the spot after receiving a call from Alok, regarding the incident. “They started abusing us. Subsequently, one of them took out a pistol and fired six shots in the air.When police snatched it away, he took out another pistol and fired on my elder brother and nephew,” he added.
They fired around 12 rounds of bullets, said the injured Sikhar.
Talking to the media on Thursday, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said that two persons have been arrested in connection with the case. “Others involved in the firing incident have been identified and would be nabbed soon,” he said.
Two pistols – one licensed and another country-made, and nine live cartridges were recovered from the spot and 2 separate cases registered at Laxmisagar police station, he added.
