Barbil: Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) organised an awareness programme on road safety for truckers as part of the 32nd National Road Safety Month outside the company’s pellet plant premises last week. About 250 drivers of peripheral areas attended the day-long sensitisation programme.
Drivers were administered an oath on ‘Road Safety and Humanity’. They were sensitised about their role while driving and when they come across an accident. During the session, they carried placards that read, “Drive With Care, Life Has No Spare”; “Lane Driving is Sane Driving”; “Mr Late is Better Than Late Mr” and “Wear Helmet and Save Head” among many others.
Safety shoes, helmets and face masks were distributed and the best drivers were awarded ‘On Spot’ prizes.
Addressing the truckers, Plant Head of Barbil Unit, Brij Badhadra said, “At JSPL, safety is our utmost priority and there is an urgent need for the society at large to take cognisance of the road safety issue and to join hands to make it a social movement.”
Sarat Kishore Panda, Head, HR (Barbil unit) said, “Road accidents cause immense economic hardship and emotional trauma to their families. There is an urgent need to make our roads safer as the loss of lives and limbs cannot be accepted at the price of mobility.”
