Puri: The road from Jagannath temple office to Singhadwar (Lions Gate) of the temple in Odisha’s Puri town will remain closed for next 15 days.
Speaking to media persons on Friday, deputy collector of Puri district Bhaba Taran Sahu said since the works of heritage corridor project around the temple would be taken up, this stretch would remain closed for the use of devotees and visitors. The shops along this stretch of the road will remain closed during the period, he added.
He further said Puri district collector Samarth Verma had held a meeting with the owners of shops and commercial establishments in this regard and sought their cooperation on Thursday. The work has begun with their consent.
The works would be carried out on the eastern side of the temple. The old sewarage pipelines and electrical cables would be replaced with new ones and laid underground in safe places.
The implmenting agencies have been asked to ensure that these supply lines do not come on the way of the chariots during Rath Yatra. After the completion of the work, the road will be again opened to the visitors, Sahu added.
