Bhubaneswar/Cuttack: A day after rain lashed several parts of Odisha, roads caved in at various places in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
A chunk of the busy road at CDA area in Cuttack collapsed, disrupting movement of vehicles for several hours.
“We came to know about the incident this morning and staged a blockade demanding immediate repair of the road,” said Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) local corporator Girbala Behera.
He blamed sewerage board, Public Health and Roads and Buildings departments, for the bad conditions and attributed it to lack of maintenance. “The problem should be sorted out at the earliest, failing which we will hit the streets in the days to come,” the corporator said.
Not only in Cuttack, a portion of road connecting Nicco Park with Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar had also caved in on Friday afternoon.
Noticing this, a group of people gathered at the spot and blamed it on the poor quality being undertaken along the stretch.
Some officials of the PHEO had visited the place and said that the hole developed after incessant rain will be repaired soon.
