Balasore: Robbers broke into the Odisha Gramya Bank at Khaprapada Square in Baliapal area of Odisha’s Balasore district and looted a huge amount of cash. The incident, suspected to have taken place late on Sunday, came to light on Monday morning.
According to sources, the robbers opened the window of the bank using gas cutters and entered the building to commit the loot. It was not immediately known if the robbers had also tampered with the CCTV camera installed in the bank.
The robbers have fled with cash amounting to lakhs of rupees. The exact amount stolen will be ascertained after verification by bank officials.
The matter came to light when locals spotted the broken window and alerted the bank manager and police.
After getting information into the incident, a police team rushed to the spot and launched a n investigation. CCTV footage is being examined as part of the probe.
Locals pointed out that a similar loot had taken place in the same bank five years ago and claimed that lack of police patrolling has led to a rise in crimes in the area.
