Dhenkanal: Unidentified miscreants shot at a jeweller and took away Rs one lakh cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 3 lakh in Rasola area of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Tuesday.
The jeweller has been identified as Prakash Chandra Sahu from Angul district.
According to preliminary information, Prakash was intercepted by two bike-borne miscreants at Kadalipali when he was returning from Cuttack to Angul via Dhenkanal, after purchasing some gold ornaments.
The miscreants threatened with a firearm and attempted to rob him. As the jeweller resisted, the miscreants opened fire, causing him bullet injuries on his waist.
The miscreants fled the spot soon after snatching away the valuables and cash from Prakash.
On being informed by locals, a team from Rasola station rusned to the spot and rescued Prakash and admitted him to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Dhenkanal for treatment. His condition was stated to be critical.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and efforts are on to trace the miscreants.
