Cuttack: A special squad of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Wednesday seized 10 boxes of rotten eggs from an auto-rickshaw near Santa Sahi in Bajrakabati area of the city and detained the driver.
When asked by the media, the auto driver said the eggs were transported by a hatchery at Bali in Athagarh block of the district to a bakery unit at Santa Sahi in the city. While most of the eggs were rotten, some were found with dead hatchlings.
CMC Health Officer Satyabrata Mohapatra said the CMC had the information that some hatcheries from Athagarh, Banki and Choudwar were supplying rotten eggs to food processing units in different places of Cuttack city.
He said the seized rotten eggs will be destroyed and action will be taken against the owner of the bakery unit.
