Rourkela Businessman ‘Abducted’, Rs 1 Crore Ransom Note Recovered From Car

Rourkela: Police have begun an operation to trace businessman Pradeep Kundu, who was allegedly abducted by a group of miscreants near Bijabahal in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Saturday night.

According to a complaint lodged by his family members at Biramitrapur police station, Kundu left for home at Biramitrapur from a stone crusher unit at Bijabahal in his car around 7.30 pm. When he did not reach the house even after several hours, they tried to contact him over his mobile phone but in vain.

Acting on the complaint, a team of Biramitrapur police swung into action and found Kundu’s car parked on the roadside near Samya, about 200 metres from the National Highway. Kundu’s mobile phone along with an injection syringe was found lying in the car.

Besides, a note with a ransom demand of Rs 1 crore for the release of the businessman was recovered.

Though the police have not divulged the details to the media, preliminary investigation revealed that the miscreants had abducted Kundu by forcibly administering him a tranquillizer.

Apart from the stone crusher unit, Kundu also runs private transport in Rourkela.
