Bhubaneswar: Star cyclist of Odisha Swasti Singh has bagged the gold medal in the 60-km Road Mass Start under Elite Women Category at the 25th National Road Cycling Championships in Mumbai.
The championship, which began on March 5, at Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra will conclude on Monday.
The 19-year-old from Rourkela entered the cycling arena in 2015 when she was in Class VII and has since been grabbing headlines with her superb technique and buzzer-beater timings. She bagged her first national medal in the 15 km individual time trial event at the 23rd National Road Cycling Championship in 2018. She won four gold medals in this national outing.
The same year, she bagged her first international gold medal at the 5th Asian Cup Track Cycling.
In 2019, she created a new national record of 2:35:161 seconds by beating her own 2:37:00 seconds’ previous record to win a bronze medal at the Track Asia Cup Cycling Championships. She followed this with a silver win at the 13th South Asian Games.
In 2020, she won two gold medals and a silver at the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games in Guwahati.
