Rourkela: A 9-day-old infant boy, who had sustained severe burn injuries in a fire mishap at the newborn ward of Om Appolo Hospital in Rourkela on February 17, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar in the wee hours on Tuesday.
Following the death of the infant, tension has prevailed at the Deogaon village in Sundergarh district.
Meanwhile, two platoons of police force have been deployed at the Om Apollo Hospital in the Civil Township area after the people of Deogaon village staged a dharna in front of the hospital demanding compensation to the family members of the deceased baby.
The infant was admitted to the Om Apollo Hospital in Civil Township area by his father Manoj Das on February 16 for treatment of Jaundice.
During wee hours on February 17, the baby sustained critical burn injuries after the bulb of the photo therapy machine in which he was kept for treatment, exploded and caught fire in the newborn ward.
The infant was rushed to the IGH from where he was later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
