Rourkela: Three policemen were injured after irate locals pelted stones at them during a protest in the Steel city here this morning.
Protesting the death of two school students of which one had died yesterday and the other succumbed to his injuries at the Indira Gandhi Hospital (IGH) today, the locals staged a blockade on Ring Road in the morning demanding compensation to the family of the deceased.
As vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt due to the blockade, police rushed to the spot tried to take stock of the situation, the agitators pelted stones at them and damaged two police vehicles in which three policemen were injured.
The injured policemen were rushed to IGH.
The incident took place on Saturday afternoon when a speeding car hit four school students on the busy Ring Road area. While one of the students died on the spot, another student succumbed to his injuries at IGH this morning.
