Rourkela: A worker died and another sustained injuries in a mishap at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) here on Sunday morning.
According to sources, the incident took place when the contractual labourers, identified as Amar Panda and Sushil Kumar Deb, were working in Captive Power Plant I on premises of RSP.
Amar died on the spot following a blast in the gas pipeline while the two were engaged in maintenance work. Sushil, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to Ispat General Hospital. They were employed by Gomati Construction Company as outsourced workers.
The RSP will extend ex-gratia compensation in accordance with its policy, company sources said.
It may be noted that four contract workers had died due to a gas leak on January 6 when they were engaged in a pipe maintenance job in CCD at the Site A Booster House of RSP. Following the incident, RSP CEO Dipak Chattaraj had suspended three officials for dereliction of duty.
