Bhubaneswar: The single window committee (SWC) of the Energy Department recently cleared proposals for four renewable projects.
These include two solar power projects of 50 MW each, a wind power project of 50 MW and waste-to-energy (bio-methanation) project, which will be the first of its kind in the state, of Rourkela Municipal Corporation with an outlay of Rs 890 crore.
In the third project, power will be generated from methane gas produced by fermentation of municipal waste. “In the first phase, 40kW power will be generated by utilising five-tonne waste out of the 40 tonne produced in the steel city everyday. Solid bio-fertiliser will be produced as a bi-product,” GRIDCO MD Trilochan Panda was quoted as saying.
Under Odisha Renewable Energy Policy, 2022, such power can be procured by GRIDCO at a tariff determined by OERC for use in the state, in accordance with National Tariff Policy, 2016, he added.
