Bhubaneswar: A constable of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), serving at Bhubaneswar railway station, has been nominated for the Railway Minister’s Jeewan Raksha Padak for 2020.
According to a release of East Coast Railway (ECoR), Subrat Kumar Maharana, RPF constable, was selected for the award for his brave action that led to save the life of a woman passenger.
On February 15, 2020 when the lady passenger was trying to board Puri-Sambalpur Inter City Express at platform No 1 of Bhubaneswar railway station, she fell down from the running train. She was about to fall into the gap between the platform and train.
But alertness and prompt action by constable Maharana, who was on duty at the station, saved the woman. He rushed to the lady passenger and picked her up before falling on railway track. Maharana’s brave action without caring for personal safety was highly appreciated by the people.
General Manager of ECoR Roop Narayan Sunkar congratulated Maharana for the prestigious award which carries a cash reward of Rs one lakh.
