Rayagada: Around Rs 1.5 crore in cash donations was found in the ‘hundis’ (donation boxes) of Goddess Ma Majhighariani temple in Odisha’s Rayagada district after a 10-hour-long counting.
Over 250 women members of a local NGO participated in the counting, which began earlier in th
e day on the temple premises.
Sources said Rs 1,05,52,845 in cash was found from the nine hundis. This apart, 2.150 kg of silver and 30 grams of gold were also found during the counting process.
As many as 23 foreign currency notes were also found among the donations during the counting, which was carried out in the presence of officials from the Revenue Department.
After completion of the counting, the cash and valuables were transported to a bank in Rayagada in a special bus under tight security.
hairperson of the temple managing committee, Raisingh Bidika said the donated amount would be utilised for temple development, management activities, and social welfare initiatives.
