Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance sleuths have recovered Rs 1 crore in cash during raid on properties of an additional director in the state government.
On the allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of income, the Vigilance carried out simultaneous searches on the properties of Umesh Chandra Jena, additional director, Directorate of Mines, Bhubaneswar at 13 places in Khurda and Keonjhar districts on Friday.
The searches were conducted at 5 locations in Bhubaneswar, Jena’s native village at Sirispal in Keonjhar district,
house of a relative in Keonjhar, building located at Gamaharia in Keonjhar and 5 other places in the same district. Thirteen teams of Odisha Vigilance conducted the search.
During searches so far, the following movable and immovable assets were unearthed in the name of Jena and his family members;
1. One multi-storey building in Bhubaneswar.
2. 3 buildings at Keonjhar.
3. 5 plots in prime area of Keonjhar.
4. Rs 1 crore in cash.
5. Gold jewellery weighing 650 gram.
6. 1 four-wheeler
7. 2 two-wheelers
8. Bank, insurance and other deposits/investments.
Jena’s son has claimed business in 7 firms and wife claimed commission income from insurance agency. These claims are under verification. Further searches were continuing, according to a press release.
