Chennai: AR Rahman has hit back at the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI).
The legendary music composer, who faces a complaint of fraud, has slapped a Rs 10-crore compensation notice on the surgeons’ body in connection with a proposed concert in 2018 which was a non-starter.
A week ago, ASI filed a complaint against Rahman at Chennai Police Commissioner’s office for not providing refund of Rs 29.50 lakh which the musician had taken as advance fee to perform at the planned annual national conference of ASI in Chennai five years ago.
The concert did not ultimately materialise because of lack of availability of venue and permission from Tamil Nadu government.
When the association sought a refund, Rahman agreed and gave post-dated cheques which bounced.
According to ASI, Rahman promised to settle the amount but is yet to pay any refund even after five years.
Now, Rahman’s team has sent a notice to ASI stating that there was no contractual agreement with the surgeons’ body.
Rahman’s counsel Narmadha Sampath stated that the Oscar-winning musician never entered into any transaction or contractual agreement with ASI and denied the allegation that he was booked for a show and paid an advance.
