Rs 1000 Fine For Wearing Slippers & Sandals While Riding Motorcycles

Rs 1000 Fine For Wearing Slippers & Sandals While Riding Motorcycles

Bhubaneswar: Did you know that it is illegal to wear chappals or sandals while riding geared motorcycles?

If you are not wearing covered shoes while riding a motorcycle, you can be fined Rs 1,000. This law existed earlier too. But under the amended Motor Vehicles Act, the fine has been increased and repeat offenders can face 15 days i

n jail.

The logic behind this is that slippers or sandals can interfere with gear shifting and potentially lead to an accident. Also, this can lead to injuries during a fall.

Safety-wise, experts recommend motorcycle boots, but shoes are enough legally.

In terms of motorcycles, the pillion rider also needs to wear a helmet.
