New Delhi: Shiv Sena (Shinde camp) MLA Sanjay Gaikwad stirred a controversy on Monday after he said he would offer Rs 11 lakh to anyone who chops off Rahul Gandhi’s tongue. Gaikwad’s statement comes days after the Congress MP, in the United States, said that the Congress party would think of scrapping reservations.

Speaking to reporters, the Shinde Sena MLA said, “Rahul Gandhi made a statement regarding giving an end to reservation in the country at a time when the demands for reservation are rising.”

“He (Rahul Gandhi) wants to end reservation for backward tribals and others and hence he is using the language of ending it,” Gaikwad said.

“In the Lok Sabha elections, he spread a false narrative to get votes. Today he is speaking the language of ending reservation from the country and has shown the real face of the Congress. This is my challenge whoever chops off Rahul Gandhi’s tongue will be given a reward of Rs 11 lakh on my behalf,” he added.

Notably, on his recent visit to the US, Rahul Gandhi said the Congress Party will think of scrapping reservations when India is a fair place, which is not the case right now. Talking to students at Georgetown University, Rahul Gandhi said, “We will think of scrapping reservations when India is a fair place. And India is not a fair place.”

His statement came while he was responding to students to a question on reservation and how long it would continue.

“When you look at the financial numbers, then tribals get 10 paise out of 100 rupees; Dalits get 5 rupees out of 100 rupees, and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) get a similar number. The fact of the matter is that they’re not getting participation,” Gandhi said.

“The problem is that 90 per cent of India is not able to play. Go through the list of every single business leader in India. I’ve done it. Show me the tribal name. Show me the Dalit name. Show me the OBC name. Out of the top 200, I think there’s one OBC. They’re 50 per cent of India. But we’re not treating the symptom,” he said.
