Rs 12K Crore Road Expansion Proposals For Bhubaneswar Approved: Aparajita Sarangi

Bhubaneswar: Road expansion projects worth Rs 12000 crore for Odisha capital have been approved, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi informed on Thursday.

Aparajita mentioned that she had met Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and requested him to approve these proposals in September 2024 and again in January 2025. “Am glad that all proposals worth Rs 12000 crore have been approved. Many thanks,” she posted on X.

This came amid a battle of political one-upmanship between the BJP and the BJD over the proposed establishment of a fish market at Pandara on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar with Aparajita and city mayor Sulochana Das claiming credit for it.

The proposed expansion projects as mentioned in the Bhubaneswar MP’s letter to the CM are as follows:

1. Widening of Existing Nandan Kanan Road to 200 ft
In the first phase, additional service lanes on either side of road with utility ducts for accommodating all types of utility services should be taken up.

2. a) Flyover on Kalpana Square to Rabi Tallies Square
b) Flyover from Shishu Bhawan Square to Museum Square

DPRs should be prepared by Works Department and land acquisition process should be expedited by BMC, BDA and Kurda Collector

3. Bhubaneswar Outer Ring Road

An Outer Ring Road for Bhubaneswar having a length of approximately 148 km should be constructed in order to cater to the urban growth and future traffic congestion. The area encircled between outer and inner ring road of Bhubaneswar city can be considered monetized through effective planning.

4, Development of Daya West Canal Embankment Road

Daya West Canal has lost its significance due to the fact that most of the cultivated land has been converted into homestead land and multiple residential establishments have also come up in the ayacut area.

Development of embankment of the Canal would serve as a major arterial road for the internal traffic of Bhubaneswar.

Earlier, Aparajita had informed about the Centre’s in-principle approval to widening of the existing bridge on Gangua Nullah at Palasuni into six lanes at an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore to mitigate traffic jam issues in Bhubaneswar.
