Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) here, along with Keonjhar district police and Barrackpore Commissionerate Police of West Bengal, arrested Subas Ghising Giri in a case related to the fraudulent transfer of Rs 2.45 crore belonging to Barbil municipality.
Giri was arrested on March 24 from Barangar, Barrackpore, in West Bengal. Another accused, Saiyed Shahbaaz Naqvi, who is from Raipur in Chhattisgarh, has also been arrested.
They were arrested after a complaint was filed by the Executive Officer, Barbil Municipality, over fraudulent and unauthorised transfer of over Rs 2.45 crore from its official account maintained with Bank of Baroda, Barbil, by forging cheques and signature of the complainant.
Abhisek Panda is the Executive Officer of Barbil Municipality, whose signature was allegedly forged by the accused.
Both accused are part of a well-organised racket, the EOW said in a press release. The mastermind of the racket has been identified and Rs 1.15 crore of the money recovered, it said.
