Puri: The Special Task Force (STF) seized 252-gram brown sugar worth Rs 25 lakh and arrested five persons from Puri Bypass road late on Tuesday.
The arrested persons have been identified as Dhirendra Sahu (40) of Pokhariput in Bhubaneswar, Subrat Khuntia (23) of Sarakantar in Bhubaneswar, Suraj Parida (21) of Sarakantara in Bhubaneswar, Madhab Mandal (28) of Dumduma in Bhubaneswar, and Aditya Narayan Swain (30) of Khuntapali in Banapur. They are all brown sugar dealers and suppliers.
According to sources, police conducted the raid at Puri bypass road following a tip-off and arrested the five. Besides the contraband, 11 mobile phones, Rs 5,000 in cash, two ATM cards, a motorcycle and one car were seized from their possession, informed Additional SP Mihir Panda.
Further investigation is underway.
