Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday imposed a fine of Rs 26,000 on the owner of a scooter after a minor boy was caught driving the vehicle without wearing helmet in Khandagiri area here.
According to sources, one Debasis Parida of Jagamara, who has not attained 18 years of age, was driving the two-wheeler without using helmet when the police nabbed him. The police issued a challan in the name of the vehicle owner Niranjan Dash of Forest Park area here.
The challan mentioned that penalty of Rs 25,000 was imposed as the driver was a juvenile and Rs 1,000 for not wearing helmet. The police also seized the scooter under Section 207 of MV Act as Debasis failed to produce driving licence.
It may be mentioned that the State Transport Authority (STA) had recently announced that made use of helmet by pillion riders was also compulsory and its violation will lead to cancellation of the driving licence of the rider.
