Bargarh: Padmapur police on Saturday seized cash to the tune of Rs 40.50 lakh from a car near Mahulapali Chhack in Bargarh district.
A gold businessman and driver of the car were detained by police in connection with the seizure.
The duo is being interrogated. They could not produce any document to prove the source of money. However, it is suspected that the cash was meant for distribution among voters ahead in poll-bound Bijepur in the district.
On February 14, a similar incident was also reported from Bijepur in the district after an amount of Rs 3.20 lakh was seized from two cars at Talpali Chhack by Gaisilat police.
While Rs 2.5 lakh was seized from one car, Rs 70,000 was recovered from the other.
