Rs 40L Cash Looted From IOB Branch In Rourkela

Rourkela: Police have launched a manhunt to track down a gang of seven dacoits, who looted cash worth over Rs 40 lakh from the Indian Overseas Bank (IOB)’s Market Branch in the busy thoroughfare of Rourkela on Tuesday morning.
The incident took place around 10 am.

Briefing mediapersons, the Bank manager said 4-5 persons were standing near the bank. When the main door of the bank was opened, they barged into it. Some of them were wearing helmets while two of them had put on caps on their head.

“Later, they terrorized some customers and thrashed some of the bank staff and asked them to hand over the keys. They also severely thrashed me. The dacoits were armed with a rifle and Mausers. After collecting the money from the vault, they fled the area,” he added.

The manager further said the dacoits damaged the CCTV cameras and took the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) with them along with the cash.

Eyewitnesses said the dacoits had come with a four-wheeler and a motorcycle.

Following the incident, a team of police led by the DIG, Rourkela SP, IICs of three police stations and a PCR van rushed to the bank.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the dacoits are from the neighbouring Jharkhand area.

Police have sealed all exit points in the city at Brahmanitarang and Bisra and blocked the National Highway to frisk the vehicles coming from Rourkela.
