Rourkela: Paan-stained walls are a common sight here. The Rourkela Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Friday issued a directive banning the use of paan masala, gutkha, and other tobacco products on its premises.
A violation will attract a fine of Rs 500. Besides penalty, strict disciplinary action will be also be taken.
The stained walls are being cleaned now. The ban will help keep the building corridors cleaner.
Both employees and visitors will be tracked using CCTV cameras. A challan of Rs 500 was reportedly issued to a person by the Indian Red Cross Society for this violation recently.
Tobacco products are responsible for nearly 0.9 million deaths every year in India, cancer being one of the causes.
